Difference Between Arthritis and Rheumatism

Rheumatism is a traditional non-rheumatic defined in the East and in the West to refer to a variety of conditions that affect the bones, joints, skin, heart, kidneys, and lungs. This term is rapidly falling out of favour in the West today that modern medical science has discovered that most of these conditions with different causes (reasons) that require very different treatments.

You can say it’s a word used mainly in Chinese communities (& traditional); it is also used by a minority-Westerners to homeopathy and alternative medicine. The only common characteristics between these conditions: 1) they cause chronic pain long term and 2) it is very difficult to treat.

‘ Arthritis ‘ is a broad term referring to arthritis, but doesn’t say anything about the cause. Such conditions include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, infection, arthritis, gouty arthritis, etc.

Overall, I will divide the arthritis to large groups 2:

1) Osteoarthritis (OA)

This is basically a condition ‘ yes ‘ that affect seniors. And originates from overuse (such as marathon runners), injuries (football players), overweight, genetics. A lot of older Asian women get OA knees while the Americans and Europeans get it on your hips. More mechanical pain of inflammation. Where you can get pain later in the day after a lot of walking and climbing stairs.

Treatment with painkillers because it essentially mechanical problem, only a temporary solution. Long term lifestyle change is more important-reducing weight and movement exercises strengthen muscles and reduce all kinds of weight-bearing activities (walking, jumping, running, carry heavy things). In severe cases, surgery may be required.

2) arthritis (Rheumatology)

The group is composed of different types of arthritis that mainly non-mechanical, inflammatory in nature. It is usually caused by an autoimmune condition, which causes the body’s immune system go haywire and attack the joints and other parts of the body. Such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (skin, kidneys, joints, brain), psoriasis (skin, joints), ankylosing spondylitis (back, heart), gout (joints, skin, kidneys) and rheumatic heart disease/fever (joints, heart and skin). All of these conditions require different forms of treatment.

Rheumatism – I’ll talk a little bit about the Republic of Armenia, the most common condition in this group. Unlike OA, RA can occur at any age and is usually hereditary (we now have a test for RA factor in blood). The pain is usually in the early morning, worse when it is cold, and gets better with activity and usage. This means the sufferer RA suffered from morning stiffness and pain, but gets better in the afternoon when it’s warmer and when moved around a bit.

Rheumatism – Unlike treatment for organic farming, mainly by drugs-painkillers and anti inflammatory drugs like steroids and cytotoxic drugs such as sulfasalazine and MTX. In Asia, mainly through ackobonktori and plasters and ointments cure. With huge arsenals of medications and alternative therapies other drugs available today, the RA can control very well and the sufferer can actually lead a very active life. Many who suffer from other hand OA may eventually require surgery because we have very effective medicines for organic farming.
